Road Tripping Through Texas with the 2025 Chevy Suburban High Country

There's something special about a Texas road trip—wide open roads, charming small towns, and landscapes that shift from bustling cityscapes to rolling hill country. My recent journey through Texas, in collaboration with Chevy, brought this adventure to life in the new 2025 Chevrolet Suburban High Country. Here’s how it all went down.

Thursday: Touchdown in Dallas and the State Fair of Texas

The adventure kicked off in Dallas. Unfortunately, we missed our ziplining plans due to delayed flights, but Chevy had us covered with a hosted dinner at the legendary State Fair of Texas. Tacos, an array of the best fair food, and the iconic corny dogs were just the beginning.

We explored the fairgrounds, and Dalan couldn't resist trying the cotton candy-covered bacon, which won the food competition—he gave it a solid 10/10! I savored the best root beer I’ve ever had and a refreshing frozen lemonade. We wrapped up the evening by checking into The Pittman, a beautiful hotel in the heart of Dallas that Chevy arranged for us. After a day of travel and food indulgence, the luxury and comfort of the hotel were the perfect way to wind down.

Friday: The Road Trip Begins

After breakfast, it was time to hit the road. One of the standout features of the 2025 Chevy Suburban High Country is the hands-free driving option—a game-changer for road trips! The smooth ride and advanced technology made cruising down Texas highways an absolute breeze.

Our first stop was Buc-ee’s, a must for road trippers in Texas. We grabbed snacks (the brisket sandwich for Dalan rated 9/10, and my banana pudding was equally rated 9/10), and of course, I added to my travel ornament collection with a Buc-ee’s beaver ornament. We also snagged a deck of gold Buc-ee’s playing cards, which were a cool find!

Next up, Waco. We explored Homestead Heritage, an incredible community that feels like stepping back in time. They’re known for their craftsmanship, and we had the chance to dive into that world. We visited their craft village, where we met metal forgers and made our own wood pens. The highlight was meeting Caleb Tittley, an incredibly talented glass worker who guided us through making glass flowers. As it turns out, Caleb’s main gig is restoring one-of-a-kind historic buildings, and he’s been featured on Magnolia Network, Architectural Digest, and WSJ—talk about impressive! Afterward, we enjoyed a fresh, farm-to-table lunch at Cafe Homestead, where the chicken berry salad and the pastrami sandwich were top picks.

We continued our journey to Fredericksburg, our home for the next two nights at Skye Texas Hill Country Ranch. This ranch is a hidden gem offering complimentary golf carts to explore the sprawling grounds. We spotted five owls, a couple of skunks, raccoons, and deer, but the real showstopper was the antelope reserve—such a unique experience!

Saturday: Exploring Fredericksburg

Our morning started with breakfast goodies provided by Chevy at Skye Ranch’s market. After a peaceful meal, we set off to explore Fredericksburg, strolling down Main Street, grabbing coffee, and diving into one of my favorite pastimes—antiquing. The antique mall here is a treasure trove of booths offering a wide range of unique finds. I scored a glass Harley ornament (a nod to my Harley-obsessed Papa) and a charming salt & pepper duo to add to my collection, which began with my Nana’s treasures.

Later, we headed out for a horseback ride through the Hill Country—a peaceful, scenic experience that felt like a perfect break from the road. Afterward, Chevy had a 'last hoorah' dinner planned for us at Skye Ranch, and they went all out. While we enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, the Chevy team filled our Suburban with gas—talk about thoughtful service! They decorated the ranch’s glass building beautifully for dinner, where we had steaks prepared by a private chef, all while surrounded by the stunning Texas countryside.

As the night went on, Chevy surprised us with an astronomer and a state-of-the-art telescope. Skye Ranch is a certified dark sky location, which meant we had an unparalleled view of Saturn (rings and all!) and the moon in stunning detail. The night ended around a fire, with s’mores and music. It was one of those nights that you never want to end, and we stayed up until 3 a.m., making new friends and soaking in the last bits of this magical night.

Sunday: Wrapping Up in Austin

Our final leg took us to Austin for a quick tour before catching our flight. Though our time was short, driving through the city gave us a taste of its quirky charm—definitely a place we’ll have to return to for a longer visit!

This Texas road trip, made possible by the incredible 2025 Chevy Suburban High Country, was full of unforgettable moments—from the charm of Waco’s craft village to the starry skies at Skye Ranch. If you’re planning your own Texas adventure, there’s no better way to do it than in this top-of-the-line SUV. The combination of comfort, cutting-edge technology, and style makes it the ultimate road trip companion.

Until the next road trip!
